B-25D “Grumpy” is airworthy again and ready for a new mission! This historic Mitchell bomber will fly the route used by Bomber Command to relocate WWII lend-lease bombers to the United Kingdom. To honor all the air crews that perished while moving bombers to the European Theater, Grumpy’s flight crew, led by owner John T. Sessions and fellow pilots Lee Proudfoot and John Romain, will arrive in the United States carrying a special commission Royal Air Force Pooley sword. The sword will be presented at a ceremony in Washington, DC, on October 28, 2009. Read on—and keep checking back-- for the real-time story of this WW II veteran aircraft’s journey.

The gentleman pictured is Fred Guest, a veteran RCAF pilot on Mitchells with 180 Squadron RAF in WWII. After completing his tour, he was an instructor on Mithells at Boundary Bay Airport and flew HFF's Grumpy when it was still known as KL161 with the RCAF. Fred lives in Edmonton, Alberta and is a member of the 2nd Tactical Air Force Medium Bombers Association.

WOW! If a mere picture is worth a thousand words, Your photo gallery speaks volumes for the reason we pilots fly! Charles Hunt, who flew his last flight a few years back, flew the B-25 all over the world for the Transport Command during WWII. Chuck, if you were watching, they were flying for you, too.

Good morning Guys,
Great to meet all of the team yesterday evening at Edmonton Ciity Airport and also to dine with you and hear first hand about your trip. Grumpy looks in great shape and thank you for letting me have look on board. I will watch the skies this morning for your departure to Abbotsford. This daily log is truly excellent and I enjoy following your adventures.
John (Sessions) I will watch the foundations website and get a trip down there sometime ( from Sherwood Park Edmonton )

All the very best wishes as you continue your mission.

Kind Regards
